North Salem Traffic Detour Scheduled for September

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – In order to replace drains under the road in the vicinity of Route 116 and June Road, the New York State Department of Transportation will close an area near the intersection for roughly two weeks, beginning approximately on Sept. 10.

Superintendent of Highways Ward Hanaburgh explained that the town considered alternating traffic as they have been doing along June Road. But since the detour will take less than two minutes longer, it made sense to close the road.

The closed area will be along Route 116, between the Titicus Road Firehouse and St. James Episcopal Church. The underground drains take water from the spillway in the pond on the north side of Titicus Road.

Vehicles will be directed to drive along June and Grant (Route 121) Roads to circumvent the closure.
