The camp serves unprivileged boys and girls, many of whom live in foster care.
“Camp Morty gives hundreds of children a valuable outdoor and educational experience each summer at the county’s beautiful Mountain Lakes Park,” Astorino said.
“The children get to enjoy typical camp activities, such as swimming, boating, hiking, arts and crafts, camping, and nature study, many of which are life-changing experiences.”
Astorino presented the awards and thanked the county’s departments of Parks, Social Services, and Community Mental Health, as well as Friends of Westchester County Parks, in his office Thursday for their hard work and dedication to the summer program.
“The passion and drive of our staff and supporters is why Camp Morty has had so much success,” said Astorino. “I am proud that Westchester has been nationally recognized for this wonderful program.”
“Camp Morty makes a real difference in the lives of the kids who go to Mountain Lakes each summer, giving them memories that they will remember for a lifetime,” said Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor. “We are extremely proud that our efforts have been recognized.”
