The 55th Annual St. James Country Auction is set for 10 a.m., Saturday. Hundreds of items, from quality furniture, to antiques, to jewelry and books, have been donated to the annual auction set to benefit the church's parish hall. Susan Koch, the church's administrator, said the event has become a part of the community.
"It's not just a fund-raiser. It's a culmination of a huge community event and outreach program," Koch said. "Every year it brings in people from Brewster, Somers, Croton, South Salem, Pound Ridge and Ridgefield."
While the auction is Saturday, organizers and volunteers gather each year on the Friday before for a dinner and a party on Sunday, Koch said.
"It's just a nice sense of community and it's a great way to combine our church with the community," Koch said. "With the big renovation on our parish hall, we are doing this because we want this to be of use to everyone in our community that aren't necessarily church related."
Donations are no longer being accepted for the auction, but Koch said she's hoping for a huge turnout this year.
"It's really great to see new people come every year and people who have been doing this for a long time," Koch said. "It's a great event and we're really excited."
