The 43rd American Gold Cup was ranked as the top show on NARG’s ranking of shows in the United States. This is the organization’s first time to rank first.
It also received the award for the Most Improved Horse Show in North America. The Old Salem Farm Spring Shows ranked 12th.
“We have made huge strides at Old Salem Farm in the last few years to listen to our competitors and exceed their expectations," said Alan Bietsch of Old Salem Farm.
"To get this positive response from the NARG group for our two premier competitions really validates everything we’ve been working towards.”
In 2013, the American Gold Cup increased the overall prize money offered, added world ranking classes, upgraded the VIP Jockey to a two-story VIP, invested in infrastructure changes to the grand prix field and secured television coverage.
These positive changes, along with support from the community and “Meet Me In Westchester,” helped the event rank higher.
“The American Gold Cup attracted over 10,000 riders and spectators to Westchester County which helped add nearly $6 million to our local economy,” said County Executive Robert Astorino
"NBC Sports national broadcast of the grand prix highlighted Westchester and Old Salem Farm as premier destinations to millions of viewers. We commend the organizers of this prestigious event for all of their great work."
The NARG considers all aspects when reviewing events, from prize money to atmosphere to safety for the horses.
The 44th annual American Gold Cup will be held in North Salem from Wednesday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 14.
