One-On-One at PQ School

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - “The fall is always a new beginning,” said Pequenakonck School Principal Roberta Reiner.

At the start of the year, each teacher has a one-on-one meeting with each of his or her students. During the meeting the teacher “assesses the child’s current levels of reading rate, reading understanding, writing production and writing content.”

One-on-one assessments are conducted three times a year: Fall, January and spring. They are conducted in every class, kindergarten through fifth grade. Along the way, teachers can judge how each child is faring and where more emphasis needs to be placed.

“It is a gift to the parents,” said Reiner. “They get to see what the child has accomplished in any given year. In June, the results show how the children have blossomed.”

The PQ School page on the North Salem Central Schools website gives detailed information about the curriculum for each grade level, along with a clear and inspiring statement of the Pequenakonck Philosophy, as well as a multitude of day-to-day information.
