Phone Service Down in Somers, North Salem, Bedford

SOMERS, N.Y. - Telephone service provided by LightPath, a division of Optimum, failed in some sections of Somers, North Salem and Bedford on Tuesday.

In Somers, offices without telephone service include the Town's offices, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Somers Library.

As of 2:30 p.m., email access was available and highway telephones were working. There is no indication yet of when power would be restored to the Lightpath phone lines. Town business was not interrupted.

Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy says in case of an emergency, residents should  call 911.

Meanwhile, in North Salem, phone service was also interrupted throughout the day on Tuesday, according to Supervisor Warren Lucas.

The outage is due to a cable being cut belonging to Optimum LightPath, says Bedford Town Clerk Town Clerk Listbeth "Boo" Fumagalli. The company services the Westchester Telecom Network that manages communication in numerous Westchester County municipalities, including Bedford, North Salem and Somers.

According to its website, Optimum LightPath's Westchester Telecom Network "is considered to be one of the most robust and sophisticated telecommunications networks in the world. The County selected Optimum LightPath to build, and manage this intelligent network that has contributed to Westchester's economic success as well as the growing industries it supports."

Lucas says Lightpath customers include the Westchester Library System as well as:

* The cities of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Rye and Yonkers.

* The towns of Eastchester, Greenburgh, Harrison, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pelham, Pound Ridge and Somers.

* The villages and hamlets of Bedford Hills, Croton-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Pelham, Pleasantville, Rye Brook, Tarrytown and Tuckahoe.

The Daily Somers and Daily North Salem were unable to reach company officials for comments on the outages as of late Tuesday night.
