Power Restored After Outage Leaves Thousands In Area In The Dark

Nearly all NYSEG customers in Putnam, Dutchess and parts of Northern Westchester saw their power restored by 6 a.m. Friday after a 9:30 p.m. fire at a substation at Lake Secor in Mahopac affected other substations, resulting in outages to approximately 50,000 customers.

Daily Voice received reports of a loud booming noise near Lake Secor at around that time.

At 6 a.m. Friday, NYSEG is reporting just one customer without power in both Putnam and Dutchess and 15 in Northern Westchester. Approximately 30,000 of the customers who lost power were in Putnam.

Immediately after the fire, Daily Voice received reports of NYSEG outages in Carmel, Mahopac, Lake Carmel, Hopewell Junction, Pawling, Patterson, North Salem, Somers and Brewster with the first report of power coming back on at 10:30 p.m. in Somers.

Metro-North Harlem line service experienced scattered delays of up to 30 minutes due to the outage. Service is reported to be running on time Friday morning.
