The legislators are likely to vote on the proposal at the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, so Tuesday’s hearing “could be the last chance that the public has to voice their opinions on this topic,” County Legislator Catherine Parker (D-Rye) said in a press release.

Parker said she pushed for a public hearing, as many local residents including members of the Board of Legislators have felt left out of previous decisions regarding management of the county-owned amusement park.

“It was really important to me that the neighbors of Playland have a voice in this process after they were ignored the first time,” Parker said. “As a Rye resident, I certainly still have some questions that I would like answered and I am sure that my constituents have even more that they would like to have answered as well.”

“The advocates have been extremely helpful in articulating various points and this hearing is about bringing the community together, not just to evaluate this plan, but to have an open conversation about what they want for Playland’s future and how the local community will be impacted.”

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at Rye City Hall, 1051 Boston Post Road.

People will be asked to keep their comments to three minutes, to permit every interested person to voice their opinions.

Anyone who cannot attend the public hearing but would like to offer input is asked to email Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker.
