A registered sex offender convicted of attempting to sexually abusing a woman has changed addresses in Putnam County.
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Putnam residents regarding the residency of 33-year-old Shawn Waters, who has moved from to a residence on Sodum Road in Brewster.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Waters as a level two threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Waters attempted to sexually abuse his victim in July 2008 and he was convicted of third-degree attempted criminal sexual act a year later and sentenced to a year in jail. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
