NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The National Weather Service issued a severe weather alert for Westchester beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour are predicted along with possible hail. Lightning and significant rainfall of 3 to 6 inches are possible, as well as slight chance of a tornado.

North Salem residents are advised to stay indoors. The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps at 14 Daniel Road is open as an emergency shelter. The telephone number is 914-669-5464. 

New York State Electric and Gas is currently reporting no power outages in the area.
