SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- An elderly Putnam Lake woman died after being struck and run over by a truck at a bank parking lot in Southeast, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department announced.

The woman has been identified as Barbara Fetzer, 86. The truck's driver has been identified as Thomas Hunt, a 66-year-old Southeast resident.

The sheriff's office states that the woman was walking in the parking lot of Putnam County Savings Bank, which is near the intersection of Route 6 and Drewville Road.

Hunt struck the Fetzer when he was backing out of the parking lot, which caused her to fall to the pavement, according to the sheriff's office, adding that he then ran over her. The accident took place around 9:36 a.m. on Monday, the sheriff's office states.

Fetzer was transported to Putnam Hospital Center and pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.

Hunt was driving a 2008 Ford 4x4 pickup truck, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office has not said whether it will pursue charges against Hunt, who was also taken to Putnam Hospital Center "for observation." However, the sheriff's announcement states that "the investigation into the accident continues."
