Saturday 9 a.m. & 11:45 a.m. Free Hockey for Beginners, Ages 4-9

If last weekend’s snowstorm did not convince you that winter is on its way, here is something that will. USA Hockey, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, is hosting a Try Hockey for Free event for children between the ages of four and nine. One-hour lesson and free loaner equipment included.

There is no charge, but you must register.

Friday 8 p.m. The Doobie Brothers

The Ridgefield Playhouse celebrates its 11th Anniversary Gala with world-class Doobie Brothers, performing many of their classics, along with some new material.

The evening opens with a gala reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by an open bar for non-gala ticket holders at 7 p.m. A live auction at 8 p.m. precedes the evening’s entertainment.

Tickets: VIP Seating, gala reception and performance $250; orchestra or mezzanine seating, gala reception and performance $175; balcony seating, one-hour open bar and performance $125. Tickets are avialable on the website or at the box office one hour prior to show time.

If I Had a Hammer...

Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Blacksmith Workshop

Master blacksmith Bill Fitzgerald, of By Hammer, By Hand in Mahopac, will give a workshop on how to shape iron into decorative and useful items, using a coal forge, an anvil and other specialized tools.

The fee is $85 and pre-registration is required.

Something Delicious Could Be Happening

Sunday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Farmer's Market

Fresh produce, meat, cheese, soap and candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and baked goods, all from local growers, producers and artisans. The weekly market will be closing at the end of November, so take advantage of it while you can.

Cocktails for Two… or Three… or More

Friday 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. First Fridays at the Aldrich 

A contemporary cocktail party with live music, open to members and non-members as well. Docent-led tours of the current exhibition, Visual Sound, and a chance to spend a few hours with old friends or meet some new ones.

Tickets: Members $10, Non-members $15.
