A pair of accidents on I-684 caused gridlock conditions late Thursday afternoon.
An overturned automobile on southbound I-684, reported at 5:15 p.m., took out the left lane at Hardscrabble Road (Exit 8) before being cleared around 6 p.m.
A separate accident on the northbound side, possibly caused as a result of rubbernecking, was reported at 5:25 p.m. between Hardscrabble Road (Exit 8) and I-84 (Exit 9) and initially blocked two lanes, causing stop-and-go traffic.
