Verizon Wireless Strike Gets Local

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - About 400 homes in the Peach Lake area have lost telephone service twice since the strike of Verizon employees began.

Supervisor Warren Lucas contacted management at Verizon and was told that the breakdown in service is due to sabotage. Apparently someone is interfering with the telephone controls on Bloomer Road during the nighttime, turning the power breakers off. This is a problem for the homes who lose service and for Verizon as well, since it diverts the time and attention of an already reduced staff.

Verizon has sent an electrician to the control station to install locking breakers and a locksmith to lock the panels themselves.

The Supervisor has asked the police to monitor the area and also asks that anyone who sees a suspicious car around Bloomer Road to make a note of the make, model and the license plate number, if possible. Please notify the North Salem Police.
