Westchester County has received $8,000 in state money to bring 12 drop boxes for unused prescription medications to local communities not previously served by the drop box program, according to a statement from county Executive Rob Astorino.
Secured by state Sen. Terrence Murphy, R-Yorktown, the money will expand a program that has already been alleviating the region's prescription drug problem while simultaneously preventing such drugs from entering local water sources, according Astorino.
Astorino and Murphy expect to be joined Wednesday by county Legislator Francis Corcoran, R-Bedford, and Republican North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas as they announce the drop box program's expansion.
The announcement is to be made at 1:30 p.m. at North Salem Town Hall, 66, June Road.
