What’s Happening Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Wine, cheese, tapas and farm happenings highlight this weekend’s events around North Salem.

Friday, Sept. 14

Wine & Tapas: 7 p.m. The nonprofit Good For Kids, which assists the Nicaraguan refugee camp in Costa Rica, will host an informal evening of Wine & Tapas at St. Matthew’s Church Parish Hall, 382 Cantitoe Street, Bedford Hills. Admission is $50, tax-deductible.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Muscoot’s Blacksmith Workshop: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Blacksmith Bill Fitzgerald will teach the technique of blacksmithing. Space is limited to five participants, aged 18 and older. Pre-registration is required. The fee is $85. Click here for a registration form. Muscoot Farm is located on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Northern Exposure: 10 a.m. - noon. The popular photography club will meet at the Van Tassell House to discuss “What did you shoot this summer?” Photographers at all levels are welcome. Fifth Annual Antique Machinery Show: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The Tilly Foster Farm, a working farm museum, will show off its historic engines and tractors, along with a collection of antique cars. Hayrides, pony rides, and visits with the animals will round out the day. A $5 donation is requested. The Tilly Foster Farm is at 100 Route 312 in Brewster.

Hammond Museum Reception: 1 - 3 p.m. "You Are Not Alone", an art exchange between Japanese and U.S. students, features work created by children who were directly affected by the March 2011 earthquake/tsumani and their American peers. The show runs through November 17 at The Hammond Museum, 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.

Wine & Jazz at the Lift Trucks: 4 - 7 p.m. Trumpeter Louise Baranger and her jazz trio will provide the music, artist Erica Houser will provide the backdrop, and NPR wine specialist Fred Tregakis will satisfy your oenological pleasure in this fundraiser for Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R, C, Goldens Bridge), running for election to the 93rd Assembly District. The Lift Trucks Project is located at 3 East Cross Street, Croton Falls. The suggested donation is $250 per person.

Damn Yankees: 5 p.m. Author Rob Fleder will talk about his book, "Damn Yankees: Twenty-Four Major League Writers on the World's Most Loved (and Hated) Team." Refreshments and a book-signing will follow. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Sunday, Sept. 16

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
