What’s Happening in North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A street fair, a blood drive and photography awards are among the events planned in North Salem for the weekend.

Friday, June 8

Wine Tasting and BBQ: 7 to 9 p.m. Front Street Cellar and Who's Cooking will pair up for grilled foods accompanied by barbecue friendly wines. Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli will be the special guest. 3 Front Street, Croton Falls train station.

North Salem High School Drama Club Cabaret: 7:30 p.m. It may be your last chance to see the drama club's talented seniors before they graduate. The cabaret is free but donations are suggested. All proceeds go to the Westchester Exceptional Children's School. North Salem High School cafeteria, 230 June Road.

Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at the Schoolhouse: 8 p.m. The season’s final dramatic presentation at the Schoolhouse continues until June 10, with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets are $33 for Thursdays and Fridays, $35 for Saturdays and Sundays. Conversation & Coffee with Expert Gardeners: 10 a.m. Gather with old friends or make some new ones as you discuss gardening with local experts. There is no registration and no fee. Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Candle-Making Workshop: 10 a.m. to noon. Mia Camacho-Fitzgerald of the Clean Ridge Soap Co. will teach you how to make scented candles. The fee is $20 and preregistration is required. If you decide to stay on for the the soap-making workshop that follows, the combined fee is $60. To register call 914-864-7282. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.

Family Fun Day: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join the Community YMCA of Northern Westchester at its Annual Family and Friends Day. There will be inflatable rides, carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, crafts, tasty food and more. Pequenakonack Elementary School on June Road in North Salem. This event was rescheduled from June 2.

Soap-Making Workshop: 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mia Camacho-Fitzgerald of the Clean Ridge Soap Co. will teach you how to make different kinds of soap. The fee is $45 and preregistration is required. The Circus is in Town: 2 and 5 p.m. The circus is coming to the Cradle of the American Circus, for one day only, rain or shine. The annual event is sponsored by the Somers Volunteer Fire Department. For more information, call 914-248-7411. Fireman's Field, Route 202, Somers.

Author Talk & Book Signing: 5 p.m. North Salem High School graduate and Purchase College student Daniel W. Koch will talk about the third volume in his fantasy trilogy, “Descendant: The Black Wolf.” He will also be on hand for a book signing during the refreshment period afterward. Sunday, June 10

Bird Walk at Muscoot: 7:30 a.m. Join Tait Johansson on a bird walk through the back fields of the farm. Meet in the farm parking lot, bring your own binoculars and wear sturdy shoes. There is no fee. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.

Farmers' Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans will be available. The Muscoot Farmers' Market continues every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.

Steven Siciliano Blood Drive: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. In memory of a 22-year-old cystic fibrosis patient who died two years ago on June 10, friends and family sponsor an annual blood drive. Donors must be 16 (parental permission required) to 75 years of age. To schedule an appointment, call 914-347-3872. Walk-ins are also welcome. Bring identification with a photo or signature. Croton Falls Street Fair: Noon to 5 p.m. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of games with prizes, arts and crafts, food, a bouncy house and more. There will be many vendors with handmade items and unique gifts. The 4th Annual Croton Falls Street Fair is presented by the Croton Falls Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and proceeds go to the Fire Department. Croton Falls, on Front Street near the Metro-North train station.

NSOLF Photo Competition Reception and Awards: 3 to 5 p.m. Awards will be given to winners of the juried photography competition, “A Day in the Life of North Salem,” sponsored by the North Salem Open Land Foundation and Hudson Property Advisors LLC. The exhibit runs until June 29. Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
