NORTH SALEM, N.Y. When North Salem voters go to polls on Tuesday, they will discover something new.
Gone are the mechanical machines where voters simply clicked a lever and then pulled the curtain open to register their vote. With the optical scanner, voters will fill out a card with a pencil, much the way you fill out an SAT test sheet, and then slide the card into the scanner, which reads and then register the votes.
There are eight voting districts in North Salem and three different places to vote.
Districts 1 and 2: Croton Falls Fire Station, 1 Front Street, Croton Falls
Districts 3, 4, 5 and 6: North Salem Fire Station, 301 Titicus Road
Districts 7 and 8: North Salem Lions Community Center, 1 Titicus Road, Purdys
The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
