NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – North Salem residents have two options for disposing of autumn leaves.

Those who live on town roads can place their collected leaves at the road's edge for pickup by the North Salem Highway Department. The leaves must be either in a loose pile or in paper bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Leaf collection began in early October and ends with the first snowfall.

Residents may also bring leaves to the Highway Department’s salt shed to be composted. The shed is on June Road, north of North Salem Middle/High School, to the rear of Kingsley’s Deli.

Leaves can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The facility is limited to North Salem residents. No commercial vehicles are permitted.

The Highway Department composts brush, branches, leaves and other natural debris for use on town properties. Residents are permitted to use the compost when it's available. To check, call 914-669-5310.
