Troopers from the Dover Plains barracks responded to the one-car collision around 8:30 a.m. involving a 15 passenger school bus that occurred on Route 343 between Hammond Hill Road and Chestnut Ridge Road.

The bus, operated by the 60-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on Route 343. An investigation indicates that the bus exited the right shoulder of the roadway, struck a telephone pole, a rock wall, and a tree before it came to rest, state police said.

The driver, who was extricated from the bus, was airlifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The aid was transported by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, state police said.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the collision.

State Route 343 was closed for three hours as the state police collision Reconstruction Unit conducted a crash investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Also responding to the crash site were the Millbrook Fire Department, the Dover Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
