Frederick Hayn, 102, Of Croton Falls, Retired Postman

CROTON FALLS, N.Y. – Frederick F. Hayn of Croton Falls died July 16 in Mount Kisco.  He was 102. 

Hayn was born May 9, 1910, in Bronx, N.Y., to John and Annie Machatsch Hayn. In 1936, he married Elizabeth McGuire, who died in 1977. Then in 1984, he married Gertrude Goedhart Hermsen, who also predeceased him, in 1992. Patricia Hitchcock was Hayn's longtime companion after the death of his second wife. 

As a young man in New York City, he worked for 20 years as a city firefighter with Whitestone Eagles, Engine 295, Tower Ladder 144, badge 9663. 

On his days off, he worked as a landscaper and carpenter. After retirement, Hayn moved to Bayville in Long Island, where he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years. 

After the death of his first wife, Hayn moved to Bedford Hills, where he lived with his second wife, Gertrude, until her death. Hayn enjoyed traveling and tinkering with this and that. He served on the board of directors at Fellowship Hall in Bedford Hills for 18 years. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants Fan. 

In addition to his companion, Patricia, survivors are three sons, Robert and Kenneth Hayn, both of Belleview, Fla., and Donald Hayn, of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Croton Falls Community Church in Croton Falls. Burial will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, N.Y. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, N.Y.
