CROTON FALLS, N.Y. - James “Jim” Morgia, a lifelong resident of Croton Falls, died Aug. 25. He was 84.
Morgia was born Nov. 27, 1928, to Lorenzo and Celia (Coviello) Morgia. After graduating from high school in Purdys, he went to work on the railroad May 17, 1947. He was then transferred to the Harlem division July, 1949, and finished a 50-year career, retiring May 27, 1997.
Drafted January 1951 into the Korean War, he took basic training in Camp Polk, La. Upon discharge he was furloughed on the railroad and took to driving a school bus for North Salem, Town of Bedford and Town of Somers for,20 years, leaving in August 1984. He was a life member of VFW Post 672 in Brewster, served in the color guard. He was past president and member of the Italian American Club in Brewster since May 1966. He started monthly dinners in 1972 and still going today.
Morgia is survived by his son, Lawrence Morgia (Negumi) of Irvine, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Morgia Partehow (Dave); and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Ellen; son, Robert James; and sisters, Fanny Green, Nancy Lopez, Barbara Sanchez and Mary Lou.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at St. Joseph’s Church, Croton Falls. Interment will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Somers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Morgia’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Croton Falls, NY.
