Mahopac Teacher Ellen Tunnard-Clark Dies At 54

MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- Ellen Marie Tunnard-Clark -- a teacher at Mahopac's Austin Road School and a resident of Somers -- died on Thursday, March 3, following a brief and sudden illness. She was 54.

Born in Yonkers, she was raised in Mahopac and graduated from Mahopac High School. After she married, she and her husband settled in Somers.

"Ellen's career and life's work was teaching the young children of Mahopac's Austin Road School, where she will be sorely missed by her students and colleagues," information from the funeral home noted.

Tunnard-Clark is survived by her husband, Kevin; children Caitlin and Daniel; parents Jane Ann and William Tunnard of Somers; sister and best friend Patti Ann; brothers Christopher, Donald and Thomas; nieces and nephews Natalie, Kathleen, Conor, Cooper, Mackenzie and Logan; and many in-laws and their children.

Visiting hours will be from 3-8 p.m.on Sunday, March 6, at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, 692 U.S. Route 6, in Mahopac. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, in Somers, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
