NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Michael C. Robson, a lifelong North Salem resident, was struck and killed by a falling tree at his best friend's home in North Salem during Hurricane Sandy. He was 13.
High winds brought a tree down at 19 Bonnieview St., where Michael and his best friend, Jack Baumler, were fatally injured on Oct. 29.
Born July 29, 1999, in Carmel, N.Y., he was the son of Michael and Theresa Lee Robson. Michael attended North Salem Middle School and often spoke of becoming a park ranger. He loved a challenge and it showed in everything he put his mind to, his family said.
Michael said numerous times that each year should be made up of only two seasons: summer and winter. He played with the North Salem Tigers Baseball during the summer, in addition to enjoying riding his quad, jet skiing and the water.
In the winter, he could be found snow skiing, which was by far his favorite sport. Most of all, Michael enjoyed spending time with family and friends during these activities. He would say, "There’s no place like home, except for Grandma’s." He loved living so close to his grandparents.
Michael is survived by his parents; two sisters, Ashley and Caitlin Robson, both of North Salem; his paternal grandparents, Michelle and Charles Erickson, of Dover Plains, N.Y.; his maternal grandparents, Ellen and Charles Voelkl, of North Salem, and James and Holly Lee, of Queens, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Friday at St. Joseph’s Church in Croton Falls. Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster handled arrangements.
