State Trooper Dies Of 9/11 Related Illness

A New York State Police trooper has passed away from an illness he suffered while aiding in search and recovery efforts following the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attack.

New York State Police Superintendent George Beach II announced the death of Trooper Michael Anson on Tuesday, stating that he passed away from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the attack.

Anson was 56 years old at the time of his death on Tuesday. He entered the state police on Sept. 22, 1986, and served the state for 31 years. He spent his entire career working in Troop G, which is located in Albany County. He previously served as a school resource officer for nearly a decade and was an Academy Training Officer at the Basic School from 2012 until 2017.

Beach said that Anson is survived by his wife, their three children and his brothers. No funeral arrangements have been announced.
