For the past several years driveway paver scams have hit many residents, especially the elderly. It works by "so-called" paving companies stopping by homes and offering to pave the driveway for a "good" price.

The scammers do the work, but the only problem is after the first rain, most of the topping runs off, leaving the resident having to re-do their driveway.

Kent Police said residents should only work with qualified paving repair companies and to make sure they are licensed in Putnam  County by calling the Putnam County Department of Consumer Affairs at 845-808-1617.

The second scam is one that has been around for years. It works by scammers calling residents saying they are from the Kent Police Department attempting to solicit a donation.

The caller ID display may even say, Kent PBA and show a number that belongs to the department.

Chief Alex DiVernieri said that neither organization ever calls soliciting money from residents and reminds residents to never give personal information or make any kind of monetary donation via a charge or debit card over the phone.

Residents who do fall victim to a scam should contact the Kent Police at 845-225-4600.
