Vance A. Coffin and Vincent T. Rollins, both 50, and having their last known addresses in Norwich, Conn., are facing local stolen property counts in addition to the Connecticut bank robbery charges, police said.
Their arrests unfolded after the Connecticut State Police notified the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning that the men were wanted for an alleged Sept. 23 bank robbery in Canterbury, Conn., and that they were believed to be somewhere in the area of Brewster, according to police.
Connecticut authorities provided a description of the fugitives, adding that they should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
The Sheriff’s Office dispatched approximately a dozen investigators and plainclothes deputy sheriffs to search the Brewster and Southeast areas for the fugitives, according to police.
The suspects were spotted by investigators in a 2010 Toyota Corolla parked off the side of Old Milltown Road in Southeast, near the East Branch Reservoir, around 12:45 p.m., police said.
The two men were asleep as investigators and deputies closed in upon the car and took them into custody without resistance, according to police.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the car in which the suspects were found had been reported stolen from Colchester, Conn., on or about Oct. 17, police said.
In addition, a North Carolina license plate displayed on the car belonged on another vehicle; the plate had been reported stolen from Newton, N.C., on or about Oct. 21, according to police.
Coffin and Rollins have both been charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, according to police.
They are awaiting arraignment on the local charges, police said.
The suspects also will be held to face extradition back to Connecticut on the bank robbery charges there, according to police.
