In June, a deputy sheriff assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) developed information that John Power, 20, was selling prescription pills in the Town of Southeast area, police said.

The deputy was able to arrange for the purchase of pills from Powers. Following the buy, the deputy located Powers on Thursday, Oct. 20 and arrested him for the sale and possession of Xanax, police added.

Power was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and released without bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty, Powers faces up to seven years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.00 for each charge.
