Car Veers Off Road Into Woods In North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. ? A 1995 Audi veered off the road ended up in the woods near the intersection of Starr Ridge and Bloomer roads earlier this week, police report. Investigating officers found the driver behind the wheel. They said he had difficulty standing and had a heavy odor of alcohol. He was taken to the New York State Police Barracks in Somers for an interview and processing.

• A Nikon D 60 camera worth approximately $850 disappeared from a tabletop during a Purdys party Saturday night. Officer Paul Smith investigated.

• A two-car collision at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road and Fields Lane occurred on Sunday afternoon. The six persons involved in the crash were taken to Putnam County Hospital by the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No summonses were issued.

• When Officer Dennis Cullen pulled into the Croton Falls Shell Station near midnight Monday he noticed a vehicle he had stopped earlier in the day for a light infraction. The 17-year-old driver was violating the restrictions on a junior license, which prohibits driving after 9 p.m. The officer suspected the driver might have been drinking. The three other people in the car included a 22-year-old who was in possession of alcohol. Cullen summoned New York State Police, who administered a field sobriety and breath test to the driver and determined that she was driving while ability impaired (DWAI). The 22-year-old was released and the parents of the others were summoned to take them home. 

• A woman and her daughter were arguing so angrily over a piece of jewelry that the woman’s husband summoned police after his attempts to restrain the daughter failed. Office Paul Smith responded to the Juengst Road home Saturday afternoon, along with units from the New York State Police. State Police entered a domestic incident report but no arrests were made.

• A 2005 GMC Envoy was speeding on Hardscrabble Road at 50 mph Wednesday afternoon when it appeared on police radar. Officers stopped the vehicle at Harvest Moon Farm and found that the driver proved did not have a license. The car was towed. The speed limit on Hardscrabble Road is 35 mph.

• A man was rescued from Titicus Reservoir last Friday evening, Sept. 21, when his boat overturned and he was thrown into the water. North Salem Police, New York State Police and the Croton Falls Fire Department rushed to the scene near Mills Road.  The man was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
