Couple Facing Drug Charges After Speeding Stop On Taconic, Police Say

A speeding stop on the Taconic State Parkway has led to drug charges for a 30-something couple.

State troopers from the Poughkeepsie barracks observed a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling at speeds in excess of the legally posted speed limit on the Taconic in Pleasant Valley at about 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13.

An odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. Michael Morea, 39, admitted to possessing marijuana in the vehicle and further investigation revealed that he and 32-year-old Samantha Morea couple were also in possession of cocaine.

The residents of Patchogue on Long Island, were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony. Michael Morea was also charged with the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The two were arraigned before the town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Both are next scheduled to appear before the court on Friday, Jan. 19.
