The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle has been identified as Christopher T. Watkins, 30, of Dover Plains, according to officials.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report of the accident, which occurred near Wurtemburg Road, police report.

Upon arrival, the deputies observed a 2000 Honda off the roadway with Watkins inside, according to officials.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling eastbound when Watkins lost control, at which time the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane of travel, police report.

The vehicle then exited the roadway and struck a fence and pole before coming to rest on the westbound shoulder, according to officials.

Watkins was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police report.

At this time, failure to keep right appears to be the primary factor in the crash, according to officials.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Town of Rhinebeck Fire Department, police report.

The crash remains under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.
