According state police, Glenn Paladini reported that his 1971 Pontiac GTO and 1956 Pontiac Starfire had been stolen from his property -- but an investigation revealed Paladini had "fabricated the incident" and provided a false written statement.
Paladini told Daily Voice he didn't want to respond to the allegations: "Not at this time."
But he added, "It was a misunderstanding, and we'll straighten it out in court."
State Police Spokeswoman Melissa McMorris told Daily Voice that two businesses had the cars in their possession, and they discovered the cars had been reported stolen when they tried to place liens against the vehicles, after Paladini didn't pay for work done or for storage fees.
"He knew they were not stolen," McMorris said.
The police did attempt to interview Paladini about the matter, but he didn't want to speak with them.
McMorris said the police don't have a particular theory about motivation at this time. "We deal with the facts, not why," she added.
Paladini has been charged with false reporting of an incident and giving a false written statement. Both are misdemeanors.
He has a Nov. 22 court date, in the Town of Washington Court.
