Damage occurred on the eastern side of the house, according to Mahopac Falls Fire Chief Jeff Boyle.

No people were injured, Boyle said, but a dog and cat were taken to a veterinarian to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

The chief described the damage at the house at 142 W. Lake Boulevard as being “severe damage on all three floors.”

It took about 30 minutes to put out the fire, Boyle said. Three firefighting teams went through different floors of the house, he said.

Dispatch came at 1:27 p.m., Boyle said.

Mutual aid, according to the chief, was provided on-site by firefighters from Mahopac, Carmel, Somers, Putnam Valley, Kent, Somers and Lake Mohegan.

Croton Falls' fire department provided a standby presence at Mahopac's firehouse, while Somers provided support at the Mahopac Falls building, according to Boyle.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated, Boyle said.

The chief does not believe the home will need to be demolished, although he explained it is uninhabitable.
