Firefighters and state police were notified of the fire around 5:25 a.m., said Trooper Michael Cassella.
Once on scene, they discovered some pylons under the old bridge had caught fire. Firefighters used fire boats to attack the blaze from the Hudson River and other worked from the deck of the bridge, Cassella said.
The flames were extinguished shortly before 6:30 a.m. and traffic is now flowing freely.
