Retired Bronxville Police Sgt. Anthony Deleo, now working as a deputy for the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Department in Florida, was hospitalized after being involved in a motorcycle crash Friday, according to reports out of Florida, which Bronxville police officials confirmed.

According to reports, Deleo was traveling on County Road 210 when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree. He was thrown from his vehicle and struck a concrete utility pole. Deleo was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital by helicopter, but is expected to survive.

Deleo has a broken radius, which has a plate and eight screws and a very extensive leg injury. He has undergone surgery to repair his femoral artery, but due to the nerve damage, it is not currently known if he will regain the use of his legs.

A GoFundMe fundraising campaign has since been started to help his family offset the costs of his lengthy hospital stay. More than $6,500 was raised in the campaign's first day.

Deleo had been a sergeant in Bronxville for several years before he moved south to St. John’s County to serve as a Sheriff’s deputy three years ago.
