Of those three, two were arrested after an officer said he saw the driver, Wyatt Gilchrist, and passenger, Zachary Itwaru, both of South Salem, smoking marijuana while driving on Main Street in South Salem around 6 p.m., Friday, March 14.
Following a traffic stop, both were arrested and police said they found 10 Xanax pills worth $50, a small amount of marijuana in two plastic bags worth $40, as well as a few burnt marijuana cigarettes.
Both men were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, and violating public health law for carrying prescription medication in something other than the original container.
Gilchrist was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument for carrying a fake identification, police said.
They are due in court March 31.
Just a few hours earlier on Route 35, another driver, a 20-year-old from Cross River, was pulled over and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said they found a black metal pipe containing a small amount of marijuana, and a black plastic bag with marijuana in the car.
Another driver was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana after police noticed a car sitting in front of the Town of Lewisboro Parks and Recreation Department after 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12.
Police said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the car, and that they found a few cigarettes inside a cigarette box on the front seat that had a small amount of marijuana wrapped in plastic. The Katonah man didn’t have a valid vehicle registration, and was also issued five vehicle and traffic summonses, police said.
He is due back in court March 31.
A few days earlier on Monday, March 10, David Almonte, of Danbury, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana after police said they pulled him over for having illegally tinted windows. The suspect admitted he had a little bit of marijuana in the car, revealing a plastic bag in the center console, police said. After searching the car, police said they also found a small bong with freshly burned marijuana.
Almonte was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and arrested. He was released on $200 bail and is due back in court March 31 to answer the two charges, in addition to three other traffic violations.
