Jason Inconstanti, 38, was arrested Tuesday at his home on Old Route 6 by members of the Sheriff’s Department’s narcotics and identification and forensics units, authorities said.
According to Sheriff Donald B. Smith, a deputy from the narcotics team developed information in February that heroin was being sold from a residence in Southeast.
That deputy subsequently made contact with the suspect and bought the drug from him several times over a period of months, Smith said.
Authorities then raided Inconstanti’s place and arrested him, the sheriff said.
Inconstanti has been charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, police said.
If found guilty, Inconstanti could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000 for each charge, police said.
He was arraigned before Southeast Town Justice Gregory Folchetti and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail, authorities said.
He is to appear in court at an unspecified date.
