PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - A Putnam County man is facing felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman with a broomstick handle on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, police in Kent were dispatched to a Lincoln Drive residence, where there was a reported physical dispute in progress.

Upon arrival at the scene, police said they located a woman that had been assaulted with a broomstick handle and required medical attention. Following a brief investigation, responded officers arrested Louis Debellis on multiple charges.

The condition of the woman was not immediately available.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kent Police Chief Alexander W. DiVernieri, Jr. announced that Debellis has been charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a controlled substance. There was also a warrant out for his arrest stemming from a previous unlicensed operation of a vehicle charge.

Debellis was arraigned in Town of Kent Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or bond.
