At 6:16 p.m. Monday, officers armed with search-and-seizure warrants apprehended Dante Stebbins, his car and two other youths in a commercial parking lot on Backus Avenue, police said.

The officers were from the Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Community Conditions Unit, a member of the FBI, and a small contingent of the Danbury Regional SWAT Team.

Stebbins was found to be in possession of illegal drugs and placed under arrest, while the other youths were seized and detained, according to police.

After the arrest, police went to Stebbins' home and searched the residence, where three more individuals were detained, police said.

As a result of the searches, Stebbins was found to be in possession of more than a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a .45-caliber pistol, and the suspected cash proceeds of drug sales, according to police.

He was charged with:

  • Possession of marijuana greater than four ounces;
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to sell;
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia;
  • Possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle; and
  • Altering/removing ID on firearm.

Dante was arrested and charged, and all others were released without being charged, said police.

The investigation began weeks earlier after residents complained that Stebbins was selling large quantities of marijuana in Danbury, police said. After investigating and conducting surveillance of the home, police said they saw activity that indicated Stebbins was selling illegal drugs, said police.

Danbury Superior Court issued the search-and-seizure warrants for Stebbins, his car and his home.

Police did not release information on his bond or court date, but Stebbins was later released from custody.
