Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, troopers conducted a traffic stop of Bronx resident Anthony Smith’s 2018 Kia Optima when he committed a vehicle and traffic law violation on the interstate.

During the stop, it was determined that the 26-year-old was driving his vehicle with more than three suspensions on his license and he was allegedly in possession of Oxycodone pills. Further investigation found that Smith was also in possession of $5,100 in counterfeit cash and an illegal knife.

Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. Smith was also charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Following arraignment, Smith was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond. Smith is due to appear in Patterson Court on Thursday to answer the charges.
