Putnam County District Attorney Robert Tendy announced this week that Sandy Hook resident Anthony Magliocco, 29, was found guilty at trial of first-degree burglary and bail jumping after he broke into a family member’s home in Southeast and menaced his female victim.
Tendy said that on Aug. 28, 2014, Magliocco arrived unannounced at his victim’s home, entering without warning and attacking his victim, stating that he had come to kill her. During the altercation, Magliocco forcefully prevented a witness from calling law enforcement officials, eventually fleeing when the victim got free and was able to make the 911 call.
New York State Police troopers responded to the scene, Tendy said, immediately reaching out to the Newtown Police Department in Connecticut to assist in apprehending Magliocco.
According to Tendy, during the proceedings, Magliocco failed to appear in court, instead booking a flight from JFK Airport to Russia. He was apprehended on an arrest warrant nearly a year later, when he returned from Russia to Los Angeles. Magliocco was found guilty by a Putnam County jury on Thursday, March 15.
Magliocco is currently held without bail. He is due to be sentenced on April 25.
