Sgt. Andrew Brown canvassed the area but could not find the flasher. Brown advised the complainant that, if the man showed up again, a call to 911 would be more efficient.
The following items also were reported by North Salem police:
Domestic Incident: A man was arrested Thursday morning, Jan. 31, on Dingle Ridge Road in connection with a domestic incident. The man gave his name as Oscar Sandoval to Sgt. Andrew Brown, and as Oscar Garcia to the North Salem Town Court, where he was arraigned. He was charged with menacing and stalking.
Robocalls: A Titicus Road resident reported receiving hundreds of automated telephone calls from HSBC Bank, regarding a nonexistent mortgage. Although his cell phone is listed on the national Do Not Call list, and despite the complainant’s reports to both HSBC and T-Mobile, the calls have persisted. In December, a representative of HSBC Bank referred the complainant to the Cease and Desist Department. In January, he faxed the department, demanding that the calls stop. Since then, he has received an additional 77 robocalls, he told the police. Brown advised that he contact the Federal Trade Commission and the New York state attorney general.
Loose Dog: A complaint of a dog running loose Jan. 28 in Joe Bohrdrum Park sent Brown to the area to investigate. Brown encountered the owner and, since no other people were in the park, issued a warning about North Salem’s leash law.
Smoke Alarm: A Mills Road resident became concerned Jan. 28, when he heard the smoke alarm go off at a neighbor’s house. Police and the Croton Falls Fire Department responded and found that the alarm had been activated when the homeowner built a fire in the fireplace, forgetting to open the flue. There was no damage.
Suspicious Person: A man dressed in a black jacket, tan pants and a black hat caused concern Friday, Feb. 1, when he canvassed Chestnut Drive, knocking on successive doors. Officer Silvio Ruvolo found the man to be a certified representative of the Anderson Renewal Co. who was seeking remodeling work. Ruvolo explained the process of applying at North Salem Town Hall for permission to solicit.
Dog Fight: A dog walker strolling along Mills Road on Jan. 29 became alarmed when a large dog came out of the woods and attacked her dog. During the fight, the attacking dog’s owner called him home and he left. The victim’s dog was examined by Ruvolo and found to be missing patches of hair, but to have no skin lesions or puncture wounds. Ruvolo referred the incident to North Salem’s animal control officer, Trish Gallagher.
Fireworks: A report of loud explosions in the area of Lake Shore Drive on the evening of Jan. 28 sent Officer Dennis Cullen to investigate. The noise was identified as fireworks, ostensibly launched from the area of Lake Street, off Bonnieview. When the officer went to the area, however, no one was found.
