The criminal case against Josue M. Velez, 33, of Danbury, stems from his alleged use of a fraudulent Metro-North parking permit at the Southeast station, officials said.

The annual Metro-North commuter station parking permit for non-residents costs approximately $590, according to the sheriff’s department.

Velez was arrested Thursday, June 11, after he departed a train arriving at the Southeast Station, according to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities charged Velez with two felony counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second-degree, and issued him a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana, court records show.

Velez is being held in the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or a $10,000 bond, officials said.

Velez could face up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted of both felony charges filed against him in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.
