Man Faces Multiple Charges After Two-State Chase That Ended In Danbury

DOVER PLAINS, N.Y. -- A man faces multiple charges after a July 4 two-state chase that ended in Danbury, Conn., New York State Police said.

William E. Lester, 23, of Rocky Hill, Conn., was charged Tuesday with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and other misdemeanor charges after he led police on the chase, according to state police. 

Just before 10 p.m. July 4, a state trooper saw a speeding Subaru driven by Lester on Pleasant Ridge Road in Dover. When the trooper tried to pull the car over, Lester sped away and threw a lunch box full of Lysergic acid diethylamide or LSD, a hallucinogen onto the road, according to state police.

The chase went across the state line into Connecticut and caused damaged to the car pursuing him, police said.

Just off Route 7 in Connecticut, Lester slammed into a utility pole and power lines fell on his car, police said.

Lester was transported to Danbury Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, according to New York State Police. 

After an arrest warrant was issued, he was arrested on July 20 at an auto body repair shop by the New Milford Police Department as a fugitive, according to New York State Police.
