NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps summoned police Monday afternoon to a car parked at the side of June Road with its engine running and with the driver slumped over the wheel.

The crew said the driver attempted to drive away when the ambulance arrived, but they stopped the car. There was no indication of an accident and neither occupant of the car had signs of injury. Officer Ralph Argiento contacted New York State Police who conducted a DWI test at the scene, and placed the driver under arrest on a charge of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

The North Salem Police also reported the following incidents:

  • On Monday afternoon a resident of Eastern Way was observed walking her dog atop the Titicus Dam. When Office Silvio Ruvolo investigated, the woman explained she had let the dog out of her car to relieve himself and he ran across the dam. She said she was simply trying to retrieve him. Officer Ruvolo advised the woman that the Titicus Dam is visibly marked “No Trespassing,” advised her to be more careful and that her dog should be leashed.
  • At the request of Greenburgh Police, Officer Ruvolo interviewed a Sun Valley Road resident, who left the scene of a Greenburgh accident on Feb. 13. The driver explained that she had hit a parked vehicle in a parking lot and “got scared.” She said she is a new driver and did not know what to do. Ruvolo instructed her to contact the Greenburgh Police. A follow-up call affirmed that she had complied and had provided the necessary information.
  • As Sgt. Neil Caputo paused at the intersection of Route 22 and Front Street on Feb. 12, he saw a northbound Toyota pass a school bus which was stopped, with its door open and its lights flashing. Caputo pursued the car and issued the driver a summons.
