Nypd Officer From Southeast Leaves Bronx Hospital After Being Shot In Face

THE BRONX, N.Y. -- An officer with the New York Police Department from Southeast left Lincoln Hospital to the cheers of onlookers Friday, just a day after a 23-year-old gunman shot him in the face, according to News 12.

Officer Patrick Espeut, who has also served for a decade in the Air National Guard in Newburgh, was injured in a confrontation initiated by Malik Chavis at the Melrose Housing Complex, as previously reported here.

Another officer, Diara Cruz, was shot in the stomach during the confrontation, but is also expected to recover; Chavis committed suicide.
