Yorktown Police said they have received numerous complaints about the person, whom they did not identify, and have investigated every incident. The person has been taking photos of both adults and children, but police said the person is not targeting children.

Police did not say why the person has been filming residents but said when asked to leave private property, the person has complied.

Police said a tremendous amount of inaccurate information has been circulated on social media about the incidents and anyone who feels they are being harassed should contact police. Police discouraged residents from confronting the person.

"The mere act of photographing or video recording people in a public place is not necessarily a violation of the law," police said in a statement. "However, we do recognize how this kind of conduct can make people feel uncomfortable. Residents should be assured that every resource has and will continue to be used to ensure that residents and their families feel safe within their community."
