Teen Motorist Charged With DWI After Route 6 Stop In Carmel

CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy has arrested a 17-year-old resident of Kent on a DWI charge, authorities said.

The arrest came about when Deputy Sheriff Christopher Tompkins stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 6 in the Town of Carmel on Wednesday at 10:05 p.m., according to officials.

The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Ever A. Javier Martinez, was intoxicated, police report.

The deputy arrested Martinez and charged him with DWI, a misdemeanor, after he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests, according to officials.

Martinez was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, and held pending arraignment, police report.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
