The Danbury Police Department "received an overwhelming number of 911 calls in regards to the incident," which occurred at about 7 p.m. Nov. 29, a police report said.
Some callers reported a gun with possible shots fired, the police report said. Officers arrived and determined that no gun had been involved, but found that three teens had been in a fight near the McDonald's, police said.
All three teens were charged with breach of peace, and one was also charged with third-degree assault, police said. No court dates, bonds, names or ages were made available by the police department.
In the ensuing chaos that night, many panicked shoppers fled the mall that night, and several stores locked their doors in wake of the disturbance. Traffic at the mall, already congested with holiday shoppers, became even more gridlocked because of the police activity, shoppers reported.
Officers have been working with the Danbury Fair Mall Security and the Danbury High School administration in the follow-up investigation.
"Our ongoing investigation will continue to hold any other persons involved accountable for disrupting the mall on one of the busiest shopping days of the year," a statement from the police said.
Connecticut State Police and other nearby police agencies provided support and assistance during the initial response, the police report said.
