At around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, Detective Sgt. Adam Marcus came upon the accident that had just occurred in the area of 65 Ball Pond Road. He was joined by two motorists, identified as 32-year-old Chris Dimauro of Danbury and 28-year-old Danielle Lo Medico of Danbury.
The three saw a silver Jeep Liberty partially submerged on its side in the pond, approximately 50 feet from the shoreline, police said. They quickly realized that there was an injured teen girl trapped inside the Jeep, and all three went into the water to help her. They were able to free her from the Jeep and bring her to shore, stabilizing her until medical emergency personnel arrived.
Police determined that the 17-year-old was driving the Jeep south on Ball Pond Road when she lots control, striking a telephone pole and several guard posts until it ended up in the water. She was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the accident, and issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
